Latest on Andruw Jones

UPDATE: This place is becoming good with Rumors. Sports South announcers (Joe Simpson and Jon Sciambi) just said Scott Boras has said there will be enough interest in Andruw to where he won’t have a NEED to sign a one year deal with the Braves. Boras believes there will be plenty of teams to offer WAY more money than the Braves, but the question is, will Andruw leave home to play for another team?

We’ve been hearing a lot of buzz around him lately. Will he sign a contract extension if the Braves want him back? Now, when I say contract extension, I mean resign. I don’t necessarily mean the Braves have been talking with Andruw. He’s pondered it, and has said he would come back on a 5 year, $75M contract. I’m OK with that. He’s shown another great year with the glove, which by it self with Jones is worth about $6M if not more. His bat on the other hand, has not been too good. He has been inconsistent, and not really come through in clutch situations. He still has that power bat that could hit 51 hrs again though. The only problem I see with Andruw is his stubbornness, and unwilling to take Terry Pendleton’s advice.
Even with his stubbornness, he is still valuable. At the Braves Official Website, he said, “If the Braves came and offered me a five-year deal in that [$75 million] range, I would be happy and I would stay.” Not often that you here a Scott Boras client say that. I think if the Braves don’t resign him, Boras will take him out on the open market, showing him all the money he could get. However, I believe he will be a Brave because of his recent comment. “I want to stay with one team. That’s my main thing. If they don’t have me in their plan, I understand that. I just have to move on.” Let’s see if he plays with his heart instead of his wallet come off season.
