Well, here it is folks. The final game of the Atlanta Braves 2007 season.
Personally, while I care if the Braves win or not, there are four other things I will be watching throughout the day today.
1. Chipper Jones’ and Matt Holliday’s AB’s: Right now Holliday has taken the NL Batting Title lead from Chipper, .340 to .339. C’mon Chipper, I need you to pull this out on the last day for validation of this season’s worth.
2. Craig Biggio’s final game: I’m really glad that Biggio gets to end his career at home. You know how much Smoltz and Chipper are loved in Atlanta, now picture that love (maybe even more!) in Houston and that is Craig Biggio. A man who has played in 2,850 games will play his last today against our team. Cheer for Biggio today, Braves fans, he deserves it.
3. NL Wild Card/NL East races: Okay so here’s the deal. The West is clinched (D-Backs) and the Central is clinched (Cubbies). Four teams are now fighting for two spots…
Padres (89-72) at Brewers (82-79)
-Padres win and they clinch the Wild Card because no one else can finish with 90 wins.
Mets (88-73) vs. Marlins (70-91)
-Mets need a win and a Phillies loss to clinch East.
Phillies (88-73) vs. Nationals (73-88)
-Phils need a win and a Mets loss to clinch East.
Rockies (88-73) vs. D-Backs (90-71)
-Rockies need a win and all three other teams to lose to tie Padres for Wild Card.
Alright, so, potentially we could have four teams with 89 wins at the end of today. I tried to give you a basic rundown of what teams need to win/lose to determine the playoffs.
Here’s a more in-depth look from ESPN.com (warning: headache likely).
4. Football: Go Bills!
