Increase in Payroll?

The AJC is reporting that the Braves have money to spend for the next couple of years. The Braves CEO Terry McGurik said the Braves were profitable this year, and will spend “many millions more” on next year’s player payroll. That most likely means they are going to try their best to re-sign Mark Teixeira. Teixeira had an unbelievable year for the Braves last season. He and Chipper will make a great switch hitting combo for the next couple of years if the Braves can resign Teixeira.

Liberty Media said the Braves generated $101 million in revenue and $34 million in “operating cash flow” for the three-month period that ended Sept. 30.

McGuirk said, that the Braves are in a “very healthy state right now”

“The team has gone … from huge losses [in 2003] to close to break-even [in 2006] to minimal profitability this year — minimal but encouraging profitability,” McGuirk said. “It was a better year than we had budgeted, and I attribute that to the fans.”

Home attendance increased by almost 200,000 fans. So Braves fans go out and buy tickets to support your favorite Braves. Every ticket counts towards a better payroll.
